I’ve been holding off on writing this newsletter for a while. My initial plan was to send out all this campaign information at the beginning of January, to mark three months from the release date of The Bloody and the Damned, but trying to put together posts or reels or anything promotional has felt very awkward and not-okay in the middle of all this bullshit. If you’re reading this right now, please stay aware and take care of yourselves, your neighbors, and your community.

But this is a long-term fight, and despite my anxiety and guilt telling me otherwise, it isn’t wrong to celebrate the wins, big and small, that are happening in the world and in our lives. I’m very proud of this book, and a lot of its themes—rebellion, community, why theocratic capitalism sucks—are relevant right now, so let’s talk about a preorder campaign, shall we?

With as Little Context as Possible

Is she considered pretty? He isn’t sure. It isn’t something he’s ever had cause to think of, and he finds the concept so limiting. He has heard people here describe nature as pretty—a sunset, a bed of flowers, a bright spring day—but nature is so much more complicated than that. That sunset might be so vibrant because of an oncoming storm. That bed of flowers only blooming thanks to the violence of a forest fire. It is too simple to deem something—someone—as pretty. What a flat and uninteresting word for it.

What he knows for certain is this: He enjoys looking at her more than he should. She compels his attention. She takes up more space in his thoughts than she ought.

What is happening at Ealorvale may unnerve him, but she is far more dangerous than the thorns and hounds and inexplicable magic.

For the Sake of Brevity…

This newsletter has already been kinda long, so I will save what I’m doing to entertain myself for next month, provided I don’t fall off the proverbial wagon.
